• How long does my hair have to be to get extensions?

Minimum of 3″, though longer is better. Good results can be achieved on short hair with the correct choice of method, length, and cut, though longer hair will make the extensions easier to blend, for a more believable final result.

  • Will they damage my natural hair?

No, provided you follow the care instructions you are given when they are installed. The installation methods we use were chosen for their gentleness on the natural hair. You, however, bear some responsibility in keeping your own hair healthy while wearing extensions. Care must be taken while brushing and styling, so your brush or comb doesn’t catch on the extension and pull it out. You will be fully instructed on how to care for your hair before you leave the salon after your extensions are installed.

  • How long can I wear hair extensions?

As long as you want to, provided that the hair is well cared for and your own hair remains healthy. Alínea Hair Tape-In extensions can be expected to last a minimum of 6 months, and sometimes up to a year or more with proper care.

Alínea Hair Pre-bonded hair extensions will last about 4 months on average, and are not re-usable. New strands can be installed when the old hair is removed.

  • Can they be straightened, curled?

You can treat the hair as if it is your own. Use a flat iron/ straightener or tongs, even when fitted, but as with your own hair, never use hot tools too often as you could dry the hair and it will not last as long.

  • Can I dye /color the hair?

Yes. The hair can be colored. As a general rule it is easier to darken the hair than to lighten the hair. We recommend to dye darker, not lighter since the hair extension has been processed and colored, it is difficulty to fade the original color. Improper dying will ruin the hair. We highly recommend having your hairdresser dye the extensions as you will get the results you want, coloring them yourself always poses a high risk of not coming out the shade you want. If you can’t get to a salon, always use a good quality hair dye and test a small sample first. Virgin hair is not processed chemically and it keeps cuticle intact. You can dye it any color, either darker or lighter.

  • Can I wash & blow-dry the hair extensions?

You can wash them as you would your own, shampoo and conditioner. We also recommend using a hair treatment on them every few weeks, because the hair is not attached to your scalp, it is not getting the oils it should be. Using a treatment/hair mask will help keep them looking healthier and shiny for longer! The extensions can be blow-dryer on low setting, but it is not recommended to do it too often. It is best to let your hair extensions dry naturally after washing them. Please comb them from bottom to top.

  • Can I go swimming with extensions?

Chlorine, salt water and sweat are not good for extensions. If you go swimming, we recommend wetting the hair with tap water, adding a thick layer of conditioner and putting the hair in a top bun. After swimming make sure you wash the chlorine or salt water from you extensions and condition them again.

  • What kind of hair brush should I use with the extensions?

Always use the right kind of brush – no metal bristle brushes and no combs around the Micro Rings or Bonds…use a soft bristle brush that surrounds a few harder plastic bristles (hair extension brush), and do not brush your scalp area…it does not need it.

Hold the scalp area where the micro rings are with your free hand pressing down on the micro rings to hold them against your scalp and gently brush the length of the extensions. Do not force tangles out, but work gently to unknot them.
